Official Epson Statement on Refurb Printers

I installed my Refurbished Epson 3800 printer last night and I was very impressed that it came with a full set of 80 mL cartridges (not the starter set!). I ended up paying $699 out the door. Not a bad deal considering the ink + maintenance cartridge it contains would be almost $500 alone.

Here is Epson's offical statement on Refurbished Printers:

Refurbished Products: All sales are final. These are products that have been returned to Epson. They have been inspected and tested to ensure they perform properly. Some may have minor blemishes due to handling. They are available only while quantities last. Refurbished products may or may not contain a media pack or the same software package as new models. In order to provide these savings and to move final quantities, we cannot accept returns unless the product arrived damaged or defective in which case your remedy is replacement with the same model or equivalent. See Terms of Sale and Conditions.

Refurbished Epson 3800 Deal!

Although the Epson store ran out of refurbished 3800 17" Printers ( Part Number: C635011UCM-N ) there are still a few websites offering them (and at a better price). I wish I would have known before I bought a new one in December, but I think at this price I will buy another.

They still have the one year warranty & a full set of starter inks, however, they do not qualify for any of Epson's rebates. You can still save about $200 even without the rebate, however.

Printing for the Holidays

I am hopefully getting an Epson 3800 in the next week or so, I can't wait to compare it to the 4800 and the R2400. Although it has the same print engine as the 4800, and Ultrachrome K3 is K3 is K3, I still need to see the proof for myself. Maybe an extra thousand dollars doesn't buy you much more than a roll feed ... But it does claim to only use ~ 2 ml of ink switching from Matte to Photo black and 4 ml for the reverse (its automatic, using the same ink line). It will be interesting to how people feel about the 3800's ability to only print on sheets with no roll options. I read a review of the 3800 on CNET, it looks pretty promising. I saw inkjetart.com was giving away sample prints which they made on one, I wonder if anyone received one and compared them. If you did, please let me know what you think...

I also have a strange desire to buy some INKAID and try printing on some unusual materials. Maybe thin metal? Seems to have promising possibilities.
