Epson Wide Format Printer Issues: Gimp drivers on Mac OS X

Epson Printer Issues: Remove Gimp drivers on Mac OS X

If you are having problems with printing to an Epson 4000, 7600, 9600, or 10600 from Macintosh OSX than it's possible that the system is using Apple's "gimp" driver and not Epson's driver (the correct driver). Symptoms of the gimp driver include bad color, low quality, and inconsistent results.

To verify that your system is using the correct driver and not the gimp driver, launch the Printer Setup Utility application located in your Applications/Utilities folder. Look at the line containing your Epson printer and then look at the "Kind" column description. Make sure it begins with the word Epson. If you see anything else like CUPS or Gimp in the description then the system is using the incorrect driver.

At this point you need to uninstall the GIMP drivers. You can download the uninstall program at this location.... http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3

The program is called gimp-print-uninstaller-1.1.dmg. Download it and run the uninstaller. This will remove the gimp drivers from your Mac. Reboot your Macintosh and then launch the printer setup utility. Click the add printer button and in the top drop-down box make sure you select the appropriate connection type you are using, i.e. Epson USB, Epson TCP/IP, etc. You should now see your Epson printer in the list and you can now add the driver. This will install the appropriate Epson driver and you will now be printing with success. If you have any questions you can contact support at www.dtgweb.com.
